Ulysse Nardin SA is one of the oldest brands in the industry of watchmaking. The Swiss watches maker was established in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland by Ulysse Nardin. The young watchmaker has always hoped to assist in the fulfillment of the high demand for marine and pocket chronometers, which actually came to pass. While celebrating its 150th Anniversary, the Ulysse Nardin Company launched the marine Chronometer 1846 watch which borrowed its design from the antique chronometers of the 1800s.

In 2017, the Torpilleur series was introduced to the prestigious Ulysse Nardin Marine collection in three different versions. All the three houses caliber UN-118 self-winding movement which beats at 28800vph and reserve power for up to 60 hours.

History of Ulysse Nardin Marine Watches

Around the mid-19th century, the demand of the pocket and marine chronometers was really high but, unfortunately, only a few watchmakers offered them. At his home in Le Locle, watchmaker Ulysse Nardin truly desired having his own chronometers, a dream which finally came to pass. In 1846, the young watchmaker established a watchmaking company of which came to bear his name.

By the 1870s, the Ulysse Nardin Marine deck chronometers were sailing with over 50 navies and shipping companies. Due to the exquisite efficiency and accuracy of the instruments, the sailors came to love them very much. On its end, on the other hand, the Ulysse Nardin Company continued its quest on innovation and by the mid-1970s, it had around 4300 awards.

In 1996, the Swiss watchmaker was to celebrate its 150th anniversary since its debut in the watchmaking industry. At the time, the brand was under the new management of Rolf W. Schnyder Group but that didn’t prevent the “birthday” celebration. The moment was commemorated with two different wristwatches, with one being the Marine Chronometer 1846. The vintage-inspired Ulysse Nardin watch had a stunning classic display with bold Roman numerals and the casing was either in gold or stainless steel. Of current, the Ulysse Nardin Marine collection has around eight different series, with all paying tribute to the brand’s rich history with the seas.

Although its exact day of release is not yet clear, the Ulysse Nardin Marine Diver series is believed to be already existing in 2001. This makes the lineup amongst the oldest References in the prestigious Marine collection. Designed for the diving family, all the encompassed models in the series had a unidirectional rotatable bezel, screw-down crown, and robust casing with 300-meter waterproofness.

The oversized indexes and hands of the 40mm Diver’s watch were fitted with luminescent material to ensure optimum readability while under the deep dark waters.

In the year 2009, Ulysse Nardin launched a limited edition of the Monaco YS Maxi Marine Diver watch at the Monaca Yacht Show. As the brand’s first time at the event, the Diver’s watch was one of the two timepieces released to mark the moment. The dial and the unidirectional rotatable bezel have wave patterns which depict the movement of the seas. As an update of the original Marine Diver watch, the dial has oversized indexes and hands, with both covered with covered in grey luminescent material.

In 2007, Ulysse Nardin decided to give the Marine Chronometer 1846 a new and larger face. The luxury watches manufacturer launched the Maxi Marine Chronometer which came with a 43mm case which has fine fluting for a distinctive appearance. For its inner casing, the glorious watch has either a black or blue dial, with both having fine sunburst lines and bold Roman hour indicators. In the year that followed, Ulysse Nardin introduced an update of the Maxi Marine watch, although as a chronograph. Following the deep attachment of the Swiss brand with water, the Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Chronograph came with a blue dial which has sea seal patterns.

In celebrating the 20th anniversary since the introduction of the Marine collection, the Switzerland-based watchmaker introduced a new Marine Chronograph with an Annual Calendar function. The watch’s design is much of the original Marine watch on the display and also it was offered in both gold and steel.

At the core, Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronograph Annual Calendar houses caliber UN-153 which has the famous DIAMonSIL (combination of diamond and silicon) escapement. With the movement, the automatic watch allows you even to adjust your watch’s date forward or backward. In the 19th Century, the navies were amongst the most users of the Marine deck chronometers from Ulysse Nardin.

Inspired by their esteemed support, the luxury watches maker added the Marine Collection with a Torpilleur series which borrows its name from the torpedo boat. To stand out from the rest of the models in the collection, all the encompassed watches have a thinner fluted bezel and a lighter case.

To ensure your individual preferences are served right, the watch came in three distinct versions, with Reference 1183-310-7m/43 featuring a blue sunray dial and steel bracelet. As a certified chronometer, the Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur watch houses caliber UN-118 chronometer movement which has a 60-hour power reserve and beats at 28800vph.

For the lovers of intricate splendor, the iconic Ulysse Nardin Marine collection recently featured a new limited edition which is inspired by the exotic mega yachts. The ultra-modern wristwatch has a magnificent dial with a 3-D moonphase indicator and a shaft-like flying tourbillon.

Ulysse Nardin Marine Mega Yacht has an exclusive power reserve indicator which evokes an anchor with a windlass. The caseback of the high-complication watch is a transparent glass which displays the caliber UN-631 which has a design of a ship’s engine room.
