History of Tudor Watches
Tudor, the Swiss watch brand began its journey in 1946. It was created by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, with the aim of producing luxury watches with a level of quality close to Rolex, but at a lower price range. During the period of the 1930s and 1940s, Tudor was successful in pitching itself and it soon grew into one of the world's best watch brands. The 1950s were marked as a golden age for Tudor as during this period it launched it's very first models including the Oyster and Oyster Prince. These Tudor watches blended Rolex style and build quality but bore a market-friendly price. Due to their affordability, these versions of Tudor watches attracted a wide audience of customers.
While heading towards another milepost, in 1954 Tudor debuted one of its most iconic watch models, the Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner. This legendary Tudor watches model was much alike to the Rolex's 6204 Submariner. Many of its features, including the screw-down back and crown, resembled the Rolex's Submariner model. Although the brand has Rolex as its parent company but encashes its own rich history with its use in various military and sporting contexts. All through the 20th century, Tudor watches, specifically, the 7922 model Tudor Submariner was issued by France's Marine Nationale to its members. The Marine Nationale even assisted in testing and development of Tudor dive watches. The Tudor Submariner was widely adorned by various military organizations, including the Jamaican Defense Force, Canadian Navy, and United States Navy, due to their promising quality and outstanding durability.
Tudor has left no stone unturned in a bid to bring upon newer innovations. It is widely accepted due to its experimental designs. Unlike Rolex, Tudor is a home to unique timepieces including variations with the cases, colorful dial chronographs, and Montecarlo-inspired color schemes.
The recent inventions by Tudor blend the minimalistic tools with eye catchy chronographs. To stress on its newer inventions five of Tudor most popular watch models have been profiled below:
Tudor Black Bay
The Black Bay - a stylish and highly functional dive watch was debuted in 2012. It drives the inspiration from several of Tudor Submariner dive watches. This amazing Tudor diver watch comes with 41mm case size and is waterproof up to 200m. It is not directly inspired by just one model but it is an amalgamation of various Tudor models, covering every feature of perfect diver watch. The first source of inspiration for this killer watch is stated to be the original Tudor 7922 Submariner, which was released in 1954. And the second one is the iconic Tudor 1967 Submariner 7021 which was known as the Snowflake Submariner. Tudor Heritage Black Bay hour hand is an obvious inspiration from the Snowflake Submariner. The Tudor Black Bay dial is equally functional and elegant. The hands and lume plots are made out of pink gold and the unidirectional rotating bezel is made from steel. The dial is available in various hues of colors with a matt finishing. Its dome-shaped, sapphire crystal gives it a unique and eye-catching appearance.
