OCEAN STAR

Mido OCEAN STAR Watches

Redefining luxury with precision and artistry, Mido watches made a grand entry in the early 1900s. Mido launched its first watch in 1918 before launching a watch collection for ladies in 1920. The name Mido translated to “I Measure,” which is also synonymous with the precise timepieces they design. Their designs and watchmaking have always been ahead of their times. In fact, Mido was the first to launch anti-magnetic and shock-resistant watch models. Mido also pioneered in incorporating the unbreakable mainsprings in their pocket watches.

Apart from creating unique designs, Mido also worked hard to brand its watches to give them a distinct appeal. The Mido robot from this era is famous and epitomizes the progressive attitude and robust designs created by the watchmakers. The Ocean Star, among Mido Watches, was released in 1959 and was the first to feature a single case shell. It was this watch that lent the water-resistance technology to the future timepieces by Mido. They also sealed the designs with the crown-sealing technology, which enabled these pieces to withstand all conditions. Apart from this particular piece, Mido is known for its Commander and Belluna watches. The Ocean Star collection, on the other hand, is a dream watch collection for divers. The tough design and functional diving instruments have made Ocean Star watches one of a kind.

All About Mido Ocean Star Watches

Mido’s Wonderful Heritage

Since inception, Mido has combined aesthetics and functionality to offer a luxurious experience to their audiences. With an aim to leverage precision, Mido crafted watches that imbibed current technologies and ongoing trends. This Swiss watch company delivered elaborate pieces that echoed the mindset of the times. The 1920s ladies watch edition was designed to match the ambitious yet elegant nature of women back then. They designed the timepieces keeping in mind the art-deco of the era. Along with being artistic, these Swiss watches also pioneered a few technologies, which were then adopted by other brands.

Mido was the first to design scroll-free watches for their end customers. They launched the choicest invention known as cork-crown sealing, which ensured water resistance. It was one of the earliest watches to deliver this technology to the audiences. They also launched the Multifort watches a few years later, which happened to define the next milestone for the company. With this watch, the company launched the antimagnetic technology, which was the first of its kind. They also made the watches shock and water-resistant. With such excellent capabilities, the watch became Mido’s best selling model.

Mido was known for being progressive and ahead of its time. As a result, it was natural that Mido Robot was chosen as the brand ambassador. Mido kept setting different benchmarks for their watches, and the technology incorporated in them. In 1954, they launched the power wind winding system, which improved the power reserve for Mido watches. At the same time, this technology also improved the reliability of these timepieces by reducing the use of components.

Impressive Models from Mido

Mido designed exemplary watch models to meet the precision and reliability needs of the customer. Apart from the Mido Ocean Star watches that revolutionized the watchmaking world, they also designed the Bodyguard and Worldtimer. The bodyguard watch was designed as a personal protector to the wearer of this piece. It came with an integrated alarm that rang up to 100 decibels. The Worldtimer was the world’s first-ever analogue watch that indicated the local time of the country. This concept helped people know the real time for that country. Mido was also responsible for developing the smallest ladies’ watch during this period. It was focused on improving their brand’s visibility as well. Their brand’s slogan “Reflecting on Time” said a lot about their aim to brand through precision.

After every few years, Mido launched new watches, redefining the making of these timepieces, and crafting them in sync with the décor of the era. They marked the 30th anniversary of the Baroncelli watches with a new edition that reinstated the soul of the existing model. It was inspired by modern aesthetics and was a delightful interpretation of the 30-year-old model. Mido also released the Belluna watches to mark the 90th anniversary of the brand. It comes with impressive aesthetics and state-of-the-art technology. The latter models are all inspired by famous monuments of the present world. For instance, the 2008 Great Wall edition was inspired by the Great Wall of China.

The Ocean Star Edition

With the launch of Ocean Star, the company also introduced two new technologies, the Aquadura and Power wind. It contributed towards power reserve and resistance, a much-needed aspect in watches.

Mido Ocean Star 200

This watch combines functionality with aesthetics in a brilliant manner. The caliber 80’s dial inside the watch allows for super luminova as well as skeletonized hands. At 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock, the dials allow ease of reading, which is necessary for watch owners. It offers a good amount of water resistance, close to 20 bars. The case is shaped to offer extra protection to the screw-down crown technique, engraved in the logo. The automatic movement comes with a power reserve of up to 80 hours. This Ocean Star watch is designed using stainless steel. The glass frame is made of sapphire crystal and comes with a double-sided anti-reflection treatment.

Ocean Star 600

This was a diver’s edition watch, which was designed to explore the depths of deep seas. They offered water resistance up to 90 bars with this watch. The bezel of this watch also contains the Super Luminova technology. This Ocean Star’s model contains a helium valve with a COSC certified chronometer movement. The watch was specially designed for water resistance and extreme conditions, both of which are needed by divers.

The Chronometer COSC Movement

The much-talked-about movement, Chronometer COSC, offers high levels of accuracy in Mido watches. The COSC has run myriad tests to help increase the precision of the same. These tests include verifying the engraved numbers within the watches when the watch movement and controls are induced. The movements are tested in a strict environment to check how far they can withstand the temperatures, water and magnetic conditions. If the accuracy level remains the same across the situation, then these watches gain the COSC certification. And both the Ocean Star editions mentioned above are powered by the Caliber 80.

This Caliber 80 movement was defined to enhance the Ocean Star watches. This is also Mido’s flagship movement. This movement includes anti-magnetic properties and offers far better accuracy than regular spring mechanisms. That’s precisely why it is special and has redefined precision for Mido watches. It also offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours, which makes the automatic movement essential for modern watches. It also helps divers sustain for a longer duration under water.
