A Brief History of Audemars Piguet

The story behind the groundwork for the Audemars Piguet is about two friends, Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet. One working day and night to build a precise and complex mechanism, while the other took charge of the marketing to make a global presence of the Audemars Piguet. Working on the first-minute repeater watch, these two came up with the “Grande Complication” pocket watch with 7 complications.  In the years 1918 and 1919, Audemars and Piguet passed away respectively. But the company’s growth continued to touch new highs under the next generations of leaders. In the year 1915, the company launched the smallest 5-minute repeater available in the market, followed by the thinnest pocket watch caliber in 1925. In the later years, we saw Audemars Piguet come up with the first skeletonized pocket watch, their first watch with a perpetual calendar and the thinnest self-winding calibre with a central rotor.

The year 1972 was very special for the Audemars Piguet. It was the year when they launched the iconic Royal Oak, the luxury watch with an octagonal steel bezel. The brand took a very bold decision with the aesthetics of this model since the use of steel in luxury watches was never seen before. Even today, we can see the traces of the early Royal Oak design in the modern watches from this Swiss brand. Speaking of which, the modern watches from Audemars Piguet have carried the mantle the same way their predecessors did with improved durability and amazing complications. One thing has stayed common throughout its history, the company has remained a family business for Audemars and Piguet.

What Is So Special about Audemars Piguet?

The Audemars Piguet is a prestigious name in the timepiece industry. The credit for this appreciation is often given to the fearless decisions they have made over the years and never seen before designs. Perfection is the word you might have heard the most when the brand Audemars Piguet is described. Their precision in the development process with high-quality materials is the reason why we see the vintage Audemars Piguet watches in a flawless condition more often.

The Timepiece Community on Audemars Piguet

It doesn’t matter whether you own a Millenary or Royal Oak, the Audemars Piguet watches can easily be spotted among thousands of other watches. The collectors always had a keen interest in the watches from this brand. The unique design, fine craftsmanship, rich history, and high-quality material has made it a fan-favorite among the general mass. Apart from these, the versatility Audemars Piguet offers is appreciated by the people who prefer sports watches with many complications.

The Collector’s Favorite Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet has launched a number of models with revolutionizing design and innovations. But, no other model has created a loyal clientele like the Royal Oak. The Concept Tourbillon Chronograph version of the Royal Oak is the most sought after watch in this series. The Millenary especially the 4101 is also a celebrated model courtesy of its special dial design.

Second-hand Market for the Audemars Piguet

The second-hand market is flooded with pricey Royal Oak from the 70s to the latest versions. Since many celebrities have donned the Royal Oak over the years, this comes as no surprise. Some limited edition Millenary can also give you hefty returns because of the unusual design with powerful performance and the name Audemars Piguet associated with it. The most expensive Audemars Piguet is still the signed 1957 Audemars Piguet Geneve Leap Year Perp, sold at an astonishing $545,000.

Keep These Things in Mind Before You Sell Your Audemars Piguet

Selling an Audemars Piguet is easier said than done, with such a huge market for the used watches and the varying selling price over different platforms. To make sure the Audemars Piguet you own is sold at the price it rightfully deserves, you need to keep a certain thing in mind while selling it. Starting with the details of the watch, enlist its serial number, reference number and other variables that affect its price. Also, the final price is largely decided by its condition. Add the papers and other accessories that have arrived with the watch, these things also add up to the final price. Now, you can either decide the price you want to sell your watch by keeping in mind the above-mentioned parameters or take the help of the local dealer on online sellers.

The next task is to decide how you want to sell it. You can opt for a local dealer to sell your Audemars Piguet easily and quickly, but this generally ends up with an under-priced deal. Another option is to go for an auction. However, the final price is uncertain here. The last resort is to sell the watch online with a price tag you want to put on it. This is generally a safe option and might take a longer time than expected.
